How a young child was used to further Clintons' "agenda".
This book exposes the truth behind the raid on the 'Miami relatives'
home, and the abuse many reporters received at the hands of federal
agents. I have been a Police Officer for 10 years and this one of the
most informative books I have ever read, with several unknown facts
and tie-ins that the media chose to ignore. A very intense account
by someone who was there.

Excellent overall day by day scenario leading up to and after the
removal of Elian Gonzalez. Covers the political structure of Cuba
under the dictator Fidel Castro and the ties to the U.S. under the
Clinton Administration. Legal information not revealed before in
connection with the Cuban Adjustment Act is worth storing in any law
library.

Amazing story in exacting detail.
Wow, many have seen the news stories or heard the name on a news
story that proliferated for the bulk of the year. I doubt anyone has
even the most remote idea of how much content & detail they have
never heard. This book compelled me so much. I started to read it on
a Sunday night as I was going to bed...I didn't go to sleep! I
stayed up all night and read the book straight though Monday, I
missed a day of work and it was well worth it. If you have any
interest in the truth you will feel as if you have every detail you
could possibly gleen. Never felt Monotonous or boring. I now feel
like I could give a lecture on this enigma. I don't want to give
away the real details that I discovered in this book, I want you to
feel the same excitement I felt as I zipped detail to juicy detail.
The last time I felt that into a story was when I read all the
presidents men. I was captivated for 2 days and now I feel
enlightened and enriched for the time I spent with this book.

More here than you can begin to imagine. When I heard the title I
thought, "Not more about the kid from Cuba." It seemed as if the
media had run that over sensationalized story into the ground. I
read this book. Let me tell you now, If you haven't read this you
MUST READ! I learned from this impressive work more than I thought I
could learn. First you have to realize the detail is amazing. This
author lives this stuff and it shows. Impassioned works are the most
compelling and for me, enriching beyond all others. I never felt as
much compassion about the plight of the people of Cuba as I now
feel. Thanks for a great work that really moved me deeply Mr. John

A very well thought out informative book on he Elian Gonzalez
incident. It is an eye opener to the whole situation. It provides
information not known before about the incident. Very strongly
recommended reading.

Finally the truth is revealed. What hundreds of thousands already
knew, but didn't have an outlet to express it. Hopefully the
American public takes the time to read this fine piece of work. For
seven years, the American public have been the victims of the
Clinton Regime. When and where will this administration be stopped?
This book has all the facts, as opposed to the liberal, agenda
driven media. No other reporter has provided as much insightful
information as Mr. John. We, the American People, thank you Michael
John.

Hey Barbara...Nice to see your review up here. You were great on
Limbaugh the other day. This great country will be given back to the
people in November. Throughout the whole "Elian" situation, we the
public were only fed what the liberal agenda driven media wanted us
to see and read. There was only one problem...we were not provided
with the facts. The facts were hidden and the truths were covered
up. For 7 1/2 years, we the American people, have been subjected to
the lies and cover ups of the "Clinton Regime". Here is just one
more example. It is encouraging to see that this country still has
people that will report the truth, no matter the consequences. This
book is a must read for the people in this country who need a wake
up call as to what really is going on in Washington, behind our
backs.

The media did not know Elian's mothers name,
(I learned this from the book). There are many who say they followed the story every day and were well informed. The author
interviewed the media the night of the raid and they did not know the
name of Elian's mother. They only referred to her as Elian's mother.
(Its documented in the book and the author has video tape to back it
up.) I also noted during the 6 months of Little Havana standoff that
the author is correct. If the main stream media did not investigate
the name of the woman who gave her life to seek freedom for her
son...then how much did the public really see and hear every day.
That is why the author said he wrote the book. He didn't rely on the
media for information. He went to Miami. He was held at gunpoint
during thenight of the raid. He documents his sources with web site
sources and links like..., etc. Anyone who denies his honesty has not
done the homework. I checked the web sources and information
supplied in the book and it checks out...... I first learned about
the book in a chat room where it was being hotly debated. It appeared
to me that those defending Elian's return to Cuba were also
defending Castro and his communist regime. The book mentions the
Cuba web sites and the Castro supporters who bombard the U.S. chat
rooms with their undocumented propaganda. I noted they used the same
phrases and did not supply facts. The name ...kept showing up as a
reference web search source along with... I searched the web sources
and discovered that this book was worth purchasing. I read the book
and I use it for research in Junior College for foreign affairs
material. The book offers a timeline from the Cuban Missile Crisis
that almost started World War III. It took me on a documented journey
of relations between the U.S. and Cuba. Recently, Castro has joined
with China to build a port 60miles off the Florida coast. Russia's
Putin landed in Cuba and signed new agreements for joint ventures.
Iran and Iraq have even offeredassistance to this Communist island
to ease the results of over 40years of the U.S. trade embargo. The
U.S. under Clinton and his Justice Department led by Janet Reno have
looked the other way and the media has been censoring the
information with it's silence. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to speak freely.. in our free country.. and not edit my review. I know for a
fact that Cuba does not allow free speech...refer to the political
prisoners in Cuban jails who tried to tell the truth.

Factual well documented Account. This book is the only factual
account of what happened in Little Havana and how the Clinton
Administration and his INS fouled the US Laws. I read the book
almost two years and noted recently... that the documentation on the
INS being in cahoots with Cuba and Castro on the Elian Gonzalez case
has made the main stream media.... I met the author in Little Havana
at the last annual prayer meeting outside the Miami Residence in
Little Havana. He gave away copies of the book to those that could
not afford the small price and donated over 100 copies to a local
Church group. When I brought up the negative comments that a few had
thrown at him, he said "It's expected. There is a lot of hatred on
both sides of this issue. The strongest asset of our country is the
right of free speech and press...let others say their piece" I would
not have been so kind. In the book Canada and Cuba are exposed for
their circumventing of the US trade embargo and even today they are
building condos on the shoreline for Canadian visitors who are
served hand and foot by the poor local Cubans who barely subsist on
the wages. It appears that some critics had to read this book two
times to find criticism. Castro is a Communist who supports the
terrorists in the Middle East. He also has close ties to President
Chavez of Venezuela who wants to cut back on Oil shipments to the
US. The book covered more than the Elian Gonzalez case and was
written as a document for reference for now and the future.

The material in the book is a documentary of the events, times, and
denial of basic law in the Clinton/Gore/Reno betrayal of Elian
Gonzalez and the American people. Three or four years from now the
real events that occurred on that fateful night of betrayal will be
distorted. The book will remain is a testament to Journalist
integrity. Upon a review of any of the pages a reader can easily
double check sources...as they are all supplied...the author
mentions that fact over and over. You can't deny the facts - The
full and honest truth was written for the American public to explain
how their freedom may be attacked...yet most are complacent. Many
would rather get the News from blurbs on TV or in the newspaper.
Someday a stray dog-eared copy may find it's way to them. The author
only prays they learn before it is too late that our freedoms are at
stake. Witness the 2000 Election fiasco. Strange that Florida is the
main battle ground attention once again.. and the Rules of Law are
being broken, manipulated, and stretched...just as the book
detailed. Betrayal of Elian Gonzalez is not only about one boy...but
about all Americans...God Bless America and the Truth

I seriously doubt that the customer from Detroit, Michigan followed
the case closely. Distorting the facts to achieve ones agenda is
very unfortunate. The author of Betrayal of Elian Gonzalez did not
distort the facts. I did my own investigation into the archives,
after reading the book. I did not find any distortions of the facts.
I'm sorry to see that others have to lie and insult to achieve their
personal agenda.
I have read the book and there is no statement that Juan Miguel is
not the father of Elian Gonzalez. There is ample documentary
evidence that Lazaro Munero Garcia was the common law husband of
Elian's mother when they made the fateful journey. Juan Miguel was
divorced from Elizabeth for years before Elian landed in the U.S.
The book did not distort the information. The book is full of facts
and the author offers ample corroboration. There are references to
web sites, government documents and newspaper articles.

If I could give this book a negative rating of 100 I would do so.
This is the paranoid right wing at its worst. It is full of
misinformation and complete nonsense. I have followed the story very
carefully and this is complete distortion--sometimes laughable in
its ridiculousness such as the claim that Elian is not the child of
Juan Miguel Gonzalez. Don't waste your time or money on such trash.

Given the fact that Elian Gonzalez consumed much of the country's
attention for 7 months and there are still lawsuits ongoing five
years later, it is astonishing that there are no coherent analyses
of the Elian story. This book falls far short. It is motivated by
Michael John's personal biases, hatred for Fidel Castro, and the
fact that he was roughed up during the raid and is still very bitter
about it. Granted, I was and am of the opinion that Elian should
have been sent back to Cuba, so I came at the book from the exact
opposite viewpoint, but even taking this into account, the book was
not very good. It was basically a right-wing account of a personal
vendetta against the Clinton administration using Elian Gonzalez as
a conceit. The book contains so much hatred for Janet Reno that it
is appalling. The woman just did what the law required her to do,
which is more than I can say for our recent attorney general! I
fully supported Janet Reno and I believe that she exhausted all
options before undertaking the raid of April 2000. What can you do
when people are ignoring the law and refusing to compromise? I also
found it appalling that John basically accused Elian's handlers of
drugging him. That is a horrible thing to say about anybody and he
has no support for this claim besides a band-aid on Elian's arm. Did
he ever consider the fact that in all the confusion of the raid,
Elian might possibly have just cut himself? This book accused the
Clinton administration of lying and subverting the law for their own
liberal ends while ignoring that the Miami relatives and their
supporters were doing the same thing in the opposite direction.
Six-year-olds cannot understand asylum applications, no matter what
people want to believe. And he never really addressed the fact that
throughout the whole episode, Clinton followed the biggest of all
the laws: that Cubans who do not actually make it to shore are not
eligible for refugee status. Elian was picked up in the water. This
is not under dispute. So under the law, he had to be sent back.If
anyone betrayed Elian, it is Michael John, in this horribly biased,
one-sided view of the case.
By Evelyn Erskine (Canada)
On the second read through. It's unfortunate that nothing
intelligent has been written about this curious episode in
contemporary American history. There is much to be discussed. For
instance, there is the 5 year conflict between the Cuban-American
community and the the US government over the '94-'95 Migration
Accords which led up to this showdown. There is also the published
polls prior to this event which surveyed American opinion regarding
immigrants; Cubans were least liked of any ethnic group despite
their small numbers relative to other groups and their lack of
reliance on social assistance, the usual triggers for mass contempt.
There are many angles that could have and should have been explored
in order to give the "Elian Saga" some meaning, but there has been
little that and none here. The media at the time was a failure. It
never gave this news event any context so that all that remained was
raw, sometimes dangerous emotions, from the public, government
officials and often from the media itself. It is this sorry media
coverage that is the focus of John's book; a pedantic rehash of news
stories. At the time, these were thin, mundane and repetitive. On
the second read through here, they are enough to give you a
migraine. The only unique experience to be related here, is the
author stumbling into the Little Havana on the night of the raid. He
runs around quizzing various media types on whether they know the
name of Elian's mother. He finds it significant that they don't.
This is the former personal assistant to Allen Funt of Candid Camera
so he now suggests a way to mount hidden cameras so the Cuban
community will have evidence of impending INS strong-arm tactics. It
reveals how desperate and mismatched the Miami relatives really
were, when pitted against the polished strategies of the INS and
Cuban diplomats, that they actually take this nut seriously and
bring him into their fold. It is something out of a Carl Hiassen
novel and had there been more of this type of thing, this book would
have at least been entertaining, given there was no hope of it being
illuminating.
